Istanbul will be the meeting point of international equestrians and full-blooded horses this weekend, from Sept. 3-4 as the city will host the Longines International Jockeys' Championship at the Veliefendi Race Course. The jockey tournament has been held in Istanbul since the late 1990s in three categories - Boğaziçi, Topkapı and Malazgirt - and starting from this year, the competitions will be more prestigious, now that it is sponsored by Longines.For the Longines Topkapı Cup, prominent equestrians will compete over 1,600 meters and more than three British horses will appear in this category. Prestigious horses like Mister Universe, Silent Attack and Belgian Bill will be there. For the Longines Bosporus Cup, Steel of Madris, Elberethi Fireglow and Move Up stand out on the list. A special category will have Arabian horses. Exclusive to Arabian horses, the Malazgirt Cup has made a name by distributing some of the world's highest prizes in race competition. Scheduled to take place on the second day and last day, the cup will showcase Kao Kat Mhf, which won G2 in the U.K.The competitions will be held in seven categories and the total prize money is more than 1.5 million euros. The Jockey Club of Turkey (TJK) is still continuing its preparations for the tournament. On Sunday, the Longines Prize for Elegance will be held to choose the female guest with the most stylish hat. The winner will be presented with a watch from the Longines DolceVita collection.Millions of dollars worth of horses will arrive at Istanbul's Atatürk International Airport and Sabiha Gökçen Airport this week, starting Thursday. Among the prestigious horses are Waneta, a successful horse that rarely loses, and Emir of Dubai and the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's Coolmore and Godolphin.
