Initiated by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), the "Istanbul Youth Fair" opened its doors on Saturday and will continue until Thursday this week. Extending over an area of 300,000 square meters, the fair is being held in Istanbul's Yenikapı district. Based on the theme "Voluntarism," the fair aims to gather young Istanbulites who are prominent figures in the fields of literature, media, business and entrepreneurship. Many authors and poets are joining the event to share their experiences in panel sessions and workshops. Nongovernmental organizations, publishing houses, magazines, universities, educational institutions and student platforms are also attending the fair, which will host more than 300 participants.
Can Ak, one of the coordinators of the İBB Youth and Sports Directorate, said the fair is a first-of-its-kind in Istanbul. A library and cafe was established at the fair venue, where guests can purchase books while enjoying a cup of coffee with their friends. Ak added that interested guests can also get information about the İBB's youth projects.
The fair program features 180 panel sessions, 20 performances, 60 workshops and 120 games and activities. At workshop areas, guests enjoy themselves while trying traditional arts ranging from calligraphy to marbling and ceramic making. Game areas, which include table tennis and climbing, are all available for use with various competitions being held. Additionally, there are free shuttle services to the fair venue are available from certain locations in the city.
