The Istanbul Moda Academy (İMA) initiated a project titled "Turkish Crafts Collection" in collaboration with Turkish fashion house Dice Kayek to revive traditional Turkish handicrafts that lost their importance, falling into oblivion in the wake of modern trends.In collaboration with the Turkish Crafts Collection Project, five students have been chosen and enrolled in the İMA Fashion Design and Technology undergraduate program or Fashion Design and Management graduate program. The students study Anatolian handicrafts and have prepared 15 presentations by using point lace, wire wrapping, wire cracking and mother of pearl inlays, which represent Anatolian art. Each student prepared three presentations, designs and an overview of the process of creating this art form using couture technique and hand sewing.Namely, they created a cage jacket made from 9,000 wire crackings, which were prepared using 11,500 meters of wire. The jacket was also embroidered with 4,800 beads, inspired by a pattern known as "Çeşm-i Bülbül" (Nightingale's Eye). A total of 410 mother of pearls and 600 meters of veil were also used, while 70 meters of Ödemiş linen were also designed with 1,200 meters of point lace. Gizia is responsible for the production of the collection. The İzler (Traces) Collections will be on display at the building of Istanbul Moda Academy until the end of May.
