A week after beachgoers in Argentina caused outrage after pictures on social media showed a crowd of people holding a baby dolphin, which later died, while crushing each other to take photos, a man at Florida's Palm Beach pulled a baby shark out of the water to take photos.
The United Press International (UPI) reported that the video of the man provoked an angry reaction from wildlife officials, stressing the risk of taking selfies with animals. The video was posted by WPTV news anchor Ashleigh Walters.
"We've actually seen people using selfie sticks to try and get as close to the bears as possible, sometimes within 10 feet, " Brandon Ransom, a park manager in Denver, told the New York Daily News, according to the UPI. The selfie madness that happened at the Argentine beach resort of Santa Teresita in northeastern Buenos Aires province greatly disturbed animal rights activists and received a harsh rebuke from environmental and animal rights groups.
