Hakkari ski resort offers joy amid terror attacks

A recently renovated ski resort in the southeast corner of Turkey, located on the Merga Bütan Highland, is drawing amateur and professional skiers alike, especially on the weekends. Twelve kilometers from the city center of Hakkari district, the ski resort sits at an altitude of 2,800 meters, offering locals the perfect place to play sports, have a barbecue or take a walk with family members. This resort is a place where people can socialize and forget about the terror attacks plaguing the region. Stressing that Hakkari residents have shown great interest in the ski resort, Reşit Güldal, the head of Provincial Youth and Sports Services, said that locals do not have many options for leisure activities in the city. "This year, snow came a little late. Now, the snow depth has reached 1.5 meters," he said, emphasizing that Hakkari has the longest ski season in the country. "You can come here to ski until May," he said. Local residents also said that the ski resort satisfies their needs.
