As technology continues to take over our lives, we have become dependent on our mobile devices. We trust smart phones and tablet computers with all our data but simple mistakes or absent-mindedness might cause us to lose all of our corporate and personal information at once
Business managers and bosses who travel frequently and use their smartphones and tablets for work face four important threats: Unencrypted Wi-Fi networks, location sharing and social media networks, Bluetooth connections, unauthorized access by children and phones that are not password protected.
Many individuals face massive headaches due to an app that their children download or data that they delete. Moreover, it is almost impossible to put smartphones away. Employees used to obey everything that their information technology (IT) department instructed them to do; however, now the departments have to adjust themselves according to employees' mobile devices.
It is hard for employees and managers to separately use two phones for their business and private life. Instead of using two phones, two different user profiles can be opened on smart devices and simple protection can be provided for email, photo galleries and other private data.
Unencrypted wireless networks might present an advantage for you to avoid paying extra money for international Internet connection but is it worth the security risk? When you are connected to these networks, your email as well as bank and social media account passwords becomes vulnerable to cyberattacks. Your contacts list and private photos might fall in the hands of sinister people as well.
Security risks increase when employees, managers and bosses travel frequently, especially since mobile working environments are ubiquitous. Smartphones, tablets and social media networks are a part of our lives. However, if there is no corporate policy on how to use these networks, there are security risks that might trouble such travelers. In fact, the problems that might occur are so dangerous that they can lead to a company's downfall. Wireless networks, Bluetooth connections and location notifications can all lead to security breaches. However, it is important to find simple security solutions for people who are working with mobile devices. Here are some dangers to watch out for:
Free Wi-Fi trap: Unencrypted wireless networks are risky for personal and corporate data. Such wireless networks can offer an ideal tool for cyber criminals. The network you connect to because it is not password protected might cost your own passwords.
Location services: When managers and employees share their location in their posts, their rivals might spy on them or monitor their location. Although sharing information on social media networks such as Instagram and Facebook might seem innocent, the location information of sales teams might provide information data for their rivals
Bluetooth: While wireless networks offer you various data transfer choices, they are also access doors for individuals with malicious intent. To avoid security breaches, it is best to shut off the wireless connection all together. Remember that the photo archives and address books of certain American film stars and politicians were obtained via wireless networks.
Trojan horse for children: For those with children, the smartphone or tablet that are used as a mobile office during the day turn into a game console and entertainment hub for children at night. The free game apps that your children download might create a tunnel to access private data. Thus, it is important to open two accounts for your personal and corporate information.
Phones without passwords are in trouble: The risk of losing or forgetting your smartphone or tablet somewhere is very high. If your phone does not have a password or touch ID protection, your data is in danger when it is stolen or goes missing.
Pleasure for music lovers
New advantages are coming for people with good ears who want to hear the sound of the guitarist's fingers rubbing the guitar string and the minute details of a soloist's performance. The high-definition obsession in videos now plagues music lovers as well. As there are largely no problems anymore with storage capacity, music lovers can enjoy high-definition music on their smartphones or tablets. Various technologies are used for file compression, but the quality of the music files decreases while compressing. Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) is the most popular format for digitizing audio recordings, which preserves the quality of the record. When the storage capacity of smart devices increased and cost decreased, the number of FLAC users increased as well. While the music file enlarges with high sound quality, music lovers are able to hear every sound recorded on the file.
The sound quality of the instruments of records comes close to resembling a live concert experience. Sony introduced its new high-definition music player Hi-Res Audio at IFA Berlin last month. It is not a device for people who consider music a simple hobby because it is quite heavy for a smartphone, and it is thick compared to new generation devices. However, the device features all these downsides for a reason. If your archive is composed of high-definition sound files, the Walkman XZ2 includes a MicroSD card slot that supports up to 128GB of additional storage.
Wireless charging makes everything easier
Although the amount of data exchanged and the available talking time duration of a phone are higher in general and the screens are bigger, the battery life is limited. Under these contrary circumstances, we need to find creative solutions. Some devices save lives with wireless charging and mobile charging units.
Moreover, all mobile devices feature power-saving modes, which make everything much easier. The uninterrupted communications needs of the business world help mobile devices prepare for any crisis. Samsung stands out among the others with its adaptable fast charging (AFC) technology, which enables smartphones to interact with wireless charging units without effort. If the charging unit detects that your smartphone supports AFC, the charging unit charges the device faster than other chargers.
AFC technology charges the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 fully in 90 minutes. Comparing this to the Galaxy S6 Edge's smaller battery and 85 minute charging duration, it is clear that new Samsung Galaxy models are more productive in terms of charging capacity. While it takes 180 minutes for Galaxy S6 Edge to be fully charged by a wireless charging unit, it only takes 120 minutes for the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 to be fully charged with the same wireless device. Moreover, Samsung offers a 3,000 mAh battery with its large screen Galaxy S6+ and S6 Edge+ models. Both devices also charge faster than the Galaxy S6.
