October rich in festivals around the world

Travelers can arrange their vacation plans according to the festival calendar in many cities around the world such as Italy's Alba town with the white truffle festival, India's Vadodara city with the spiritual Hindu festival and New York with Halloween festivities



October is the month of festivals, which all promise to provide audiences with high quality entertainment. Festival seekers can indulge their Mediterranean palate at Italy's mushroom festival or have fun at Amsterdam's music festival. There will also be Halloween celebrations happening.India's Navratri (nine nights) Festival is another highly anticipated event. Taking place in the city of Vadodara, the festival is dedicated to Durga, a Hindu deity that symbolizes the victory of good over evil. The festival will be held from Oct. 13-21 and feature Hindu prayers and dancing. During the colorful event, giant puppets representing the devil will be burned.From Oct. 11 to Nov. 15, Italy's Alba town will host an international white truffle fair and market. A truffle is an expensive subterranean fungus with a distinct fragrance. Visitors can either taste delicious Italian cuisine with truffles or just take part in truffle harvesting tours. You may also find out what kind of wine goes well with truffles at the festival.Every year in New York, Halloween (Oct. 31) is celebrated with a parade. The city center takes on a different vibe as giant puppets, interesting music, dancers wearing costumes representing horror movie characters and locals pour to the streets. Children like to celebrate Halloween because they get candy while adults enjoy the city's enchanting scene.The Amsterdam Dance Event, the world's biggest clubbing festival, will take place from Oct. 14-18. More than 2,000 DJs will come together for the five-day event. The festival program includes interactive talk shows and live performances with famous DJs. Each year, over 350,000 music lovers flock to Amsterdam for the festival.Thailand's Phuket Island will host an interesting festival from Oct. 15 to Oct. 23. The Vegetarian Festival is an ideal event to taste the world's best vegetarian food. Many people from Thailand do not consume meat or alcohol during the festival because they believe that the healthier they are, the more Buda wishes them good luck. Visitors can come across bloody scenes as some worshippers pierce their faces with knives, skewers or swords.
