Preferred elective courses: Applied math and media literacy

Statistics from the Directorate of the Ministry of National Education Strategy Development showed that the country's preferred elective courses are the life of Prophet Muhammad and Math during the first semester of the 2014-2015 academic years at high schools. Applied Mathematics is the most elective course at the first, second and third grade levels, while media literacy comes first among the fourth grade students at secondary schools. In general, the number of elective courses in secondary schools ranges between 65 and 74. Among the 2.4 million first grade high school students, 312,913 students chose the life of Prophet Muhammad as an elective course followed by social activity course with 294,478 students and human rights course with 268,369 students. In the second grade of high schools, 160,818 students out of over 1.9 million chose the life of Prophet Muhammad as an elective course. The second most preferred elective course among the same class group is Democracy and Human Rights with 137,465 students. The Basic Issues in Religion came third with 132,754 students. Among the second and third grade high school students, Mathematics is the most preferred elective course.
