Real estate opportunities in northwestern Bursa province are the first choice for Arabs, Governor Münir Karaloğlu has told Anadolu Agency. Aside from being an industrial city, Bursa has a rich culture and tourism capacity that attracts Arabs. Many Arab businessmen are planning to make investments in housing and shopping mall projects. Thirty percent of tourists going on holiday at the Uludağ ski resort are Arabs. Karaloğlu said Bursa has been a profitable place for Arab investors for many years. "Locals and traders in Bursa made some mistakes years ago, causing the loss of Arab interest. Today, Arab tourism or Middle Eastern tourism has accelerated in the city," Karaloğlu continued.
He said 2013 was not a profitable tourism year for Bursa due to the low level of snow in Turkey's famous Uludağ ski resort. Many hotels suffered financial difficulties. This year, both city and mountain hotels show full occupancy. Karaloğlu said Arab tourists could be seen at nearly all hotels. Arabs prefer to visit Uludağ and Bursa in summer months and are not that interested in winter tourism. "They were not used to visiting Uludağ in winter. If you go to Uludağ, you now see there are many Arabs spending daily or weekly holidays," he added.
Projects focusing on the Middle Eastern market will continue, Karaloğlu said. The city will participate in the Arab Tourism Fair that will take place in the first week of May in Dubai. "We will participate in the fair with a stand area of 40 square meters. The Tourism Ministry has a stand area of 600 square meters. The ministry also gave us another 80-square-meter area to promote our city during the fair," he said. One of the allocated stands will introduce Uludağ to visitors. The other will exclusively promote the city of Bursa. "We will create a general promotion concept that will introduce the city's history, health tourism, hot springs, coastal areas and waterfalls. The Middle Eastern market is very important for us," Karaloğlu concluded.
