Using social media while driving more fatal than drunk driving, research reveals
According to research launched by the Spanish Interior Ministry, roughly one third of accidents that took place in Spain last year were the result of carelessness caused by using social media while driving. The number of accidents caused by drivers on social media reportedly surpassed the number of accidents as a result of drunk driving.The number of road accidents that took place in Spain last year was 85,519, research revealed. More than 30, 000 of these accidents were found to have been caused by drivers' communicating via social media en route.The ministry drew the attention to the fact that more than half of these accidents resulted in deaths and warned against such inclination by the drivers. Highlighting that those who were killed in these accidents were mostly under the age of 34, he emphasized that only five minutes of carelessness was enough to cause an accident.
