Parliament loses immunity dossier of CHP deputy


With Parliament expected to discuss a proposal to lift deputies' parliamentary immunity on May 16, a written answer on the matter revealed that one dossier to lift the immunity of an opposition deputy has gone missing in Parliament.

The Parliament speaker's office's answer written to the question submitted by Republican People's Party (CHP) Deputy Speaker Ahmet Aydın said a dossier on a CHP deputy was lost in the previous legislation period. "An investigation has opened regarding this matter. However, the investigation did not result in any disciplinary action" the written statement said.

Justice and Development Party (AK Party), the CHP and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) unanimously approved the proposal to lift parliamentary immunity was last week. The next step of the proposal is expected to be address in Parliament on May 16.

The proposal amends the Constitution with a temporary clause to remove the immunity of 129 lawmakers from prosecution.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu proposed in mid-March that Parliament should lift the immunity of all lawmakers and collectively review the 506 outstanding dossiers. With the dossiers waiting at the Justice Ministry and the Prime Ministry, the number of motions in Parliament is expected to reach 550.
