The İzmir-İstanbul highway was closed to traffic near the district of Susurluk in the Balıkesir province of Balıkesir due to heavy snowfall and skidding trucks.
Heavy snowfall had a negative impact on transportation and traffic flow on a major highway between Istanbul and İzmir. Several trucks skidded and blocked transportation bringing two-way traffic between Istanbul and İzmir to a halt.
Hundreds of cars were stranded on the highway causing kilometers-long lines, while other drivers planning to use the highway were warned of lengthy delays.
The Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) is currently working to re-open to highway and resume traffic.
