A couple that targeted luxury flats and houses in the affluent Kadıköy neighborhood and stole steel safes was caught over the weekend. The police launched an investigation after eight separate incidents involving stolen safes occurred in a particular neighborhood.

After a detailed months-long investigation that involved scouring through camera footage, the police were able to locate and detain the culprits. The couple's modus operandi was to go to the target building during the day with a luxury vehicle like one of the tenets and then locate a suitable unit, blow up the door lock and steel the safe.

The police found that both were fugitives. The woman had 16 outstanding arrest warrants and an eight years and one month prison sentence. The man also had 16 outstanding arrest warrants on top of a nine years and three months jail sentence.

The couple was later jailed pending their trials.
