Six local council officials have been arrested as part of a probe into allegations that district municipalities in southeastern Turkey have been aiding the PKK terror organization.Saturday's arrests were part of an investigation launched by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor.The investigation was followed by Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu's promise on Wednesday to punish certain municipalities if investigations uncovered links to the PKK.The suspects are municipal officials accused of helping PKK terrorists in digging trenches, setting up barricades and planting bombs in several areas, mainly in Diyarbakır's Sur and Silvan districts.They were first detained then remanded in custody to stand trial.The probe into district municipalities in Dicle, Silvan, Sur, Kulp, Bismil and Lice also saw a number of construction vehicles seized.During his Wednesday remarks in Ankara, prime minister Davutoğlu stated that it must be questioned where state funds provided to southeastern municipalities were being transferred to."The heads of the municipalities that work as the logistics center of the terrorist organization will definitely pay the price for all this treason and malpractice," he said.
