US consular services canceled in Istanbul on Dec. 9 due to possible security threat, officials say


United States consulate in Istanbul has canceled consular services on Dec. 9 due to possible security threat, officials said in a statement published on the consulate's website on Tuesday.

The statement read: "Due to information about a possible security threat against the U.S. Consulate General in Istanbul, the Consulate will open with limited staff and services on Wednesday, December 9, 2015. Public services, including visa appointments and non-emergency American Citizen Services appointments, for December 9, 2015, are canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date.The U.S. Embassy Ankara, U.S. Consulate Adana, and Consular Agency Izmir will operate normally. We strongly encourage U.S. citizens to maintain a high level of vigilance, be aware of local events, and take the appropriate steps to bolster your personal security."
