French father kidnaps daughter in Turkey

A Turkish woman launched a legal battle for the return of her 6-year-old daughter she claimed was kidnapped by her French father. Sema Oymak, a native of northwestern Turkish province of Bursa, said Benjamin Subra, a French national she divorced two years ago, kidnapped their daughter Marie İdil. Custody of the girl was with her mother but Oymak says she allowed Subra to visit their daughter in Turkey and the two went on a vacation in southern Turkey last month. When he did not return her calls, Oymak called Subra's friends who told her he returned to France with Marie İdil. French authorities confirmed that Subra and Marie were in Avignon, France. Oymak filed a complaint to the Justice Ministry. Her lawyer said the ministry will appeal to France to return the girl. Oymak said she had been married to Subra for seven years before they separated in 2012 and divorced one year later. A Turkish court granted the girl's custody to her and banned her father from taking his daughter abroad.
