Düzce University has been selected as the pilot educational institution to train medical doctors in alternative and traditional medicine practices such as acupuncture, hydro-therapy, apitherapy and cupping. The project aims to contribute to the improvement of health tourism by offering traditional medicine done by expert physicians.

Speaking to an Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent, Professor Nigar Demircan Çakar, the chancellor of the university, explained that a total of 20 academics will be trained in 15 different traditional and alternative medicines at the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Practices Center.

As a result, traditional medicine will be performed by medical doctors for the first time in Turkey. The five-year project aims to contribute to potential health tourism in the region. There are also plans to open hotels and health centers focusing on alternative and traditional medicine in the province in the near future.
