Polliative care center opened by ministry
As a part of the "Moral Sport Project," an initiative launched by the Health Ministry to treat patients suffering from severe illnesses, a comfortable Palliative Care Center with sea-view rooms has been added to the Avcılar Murat Kölük State Hospital.
According to a statement released by General Secretariat of Public Hospitals Union's Çekmece Region, eight rooms at the state hospital in Avcılar have been converted into a Palliative Care Center for patients who are in need of constant care. The center, which boasts five star service, sea-view rooms and private doctors and nurses, will offer its services to patients who are not able to be taken care of in their own homes.
Professor İhsan Bakır, MD, at the General Secretary of Public Hospitals Union's Çekmece Region said that they established the center in order to boost the morale of severely ill patients and their relatives as well as to ease their lives. Bakır said that the center will be one of the most well-equipped and spacious Palliative Care Centers in Turkey. "The center will provide medical care with its 15 personnel. Although Palliative Care Centers were just recently introduced to Turkey, the number of these kinds of centers increases every day thanks to the Health Ministry's initiatives. The centers will offer their services to patients who are in need of intensive care or are seriously ill and will improve patient life-quality," said Bakır. Professor Bakır said that the Palliative Care Center in Avcılar has begun to care for all kinds of patients, including ones battling cancer and those discharged by hospitals.
