Importance of keeping hydrated during warmer weather

As the seasons change so too do our body's requirements for nutrition and nourishment. The change in weather, particularly as we enter summer, brings about health issues that one must consider; dehydration is one of them.Dehydration is a condition that occurs when the body loses more fluid than it takes in through drinking. Your body loses water not only during strenuous activity like exercise, but also through the following: - As you breathe and exhale you lose water through vapor - Sweating due to stress, heat exposure or exercise - Urinating and passing stool - Fever - Vomiting, diarrhea or increased urination due to illness - Diabetes Injuries or illnesses of the skin such as burns, mouth sores or severe skin diseases Symptoms of dehydration range from minor to severe and include things such as: - Dry mouth, increased thirst and swollen tongue - Weakness - Dizziness - Lethargy - Decreased urine output - Headache Staying hydrated is critical to your wellbeing. It assists your heart in pumping blood through your blood vessels to the muscles which enable your body to remove waste more efficiently. Remaining well hydrated means your heart doesn't have to work as hard. There are numerous factors as to how much water your body needs, these include things such as climate, clothing, how often and for how long you exercise. For those who are not used to drinking water, it is easy to resort to sugary drinks or coffee to satiate the desire to hydrate yourself, but this will actually do more damage than good.Though you can replenish your body with foods and fruits that contain a high percentage of water, which is a healthier option, the best solution to remain hydrated is by drinking water.Having access to clean water in sufficient quantities is a challenge in a place like Turkey. The majority of the country's drinking water (97 percent) is derived from reservoirs. Its most important water sources are the Omerli-Darlik system on the Asian side of Istanbul and the Terkos-Alibeykoy system on the European side of the city. Both consist of dams, reservoirs, water treatment plants and pipelines.Due to the fact that they are located close to metropolitan areas, the water is exposed to pollution and therefore not of the highest quality.
