Turkish, Azerbaijani air forces soar over Bosporus for Teknofest

This year's Teknofest kicked off with a dazzling coordinated performance by the Turkish and Azerbaijani air forces over Istanbul's Bosporus.

The aerobatic team of the Turkish Air Forces Command, SOLOTÜRK, soared over the clear sky Tuesday in Istanbul, shortly before the annual Teknofest kicked off.

Teknofest is Turkey’s largest aerospace and technology gathering and is considered one of the world’s biggest aviation events.

The event starts Tuesday at Atatürk Airport and will offer a range of activities, from air shows with warplanes, unmanned aerial vehicles and helicopters to seminars, summits, competitions and fairs.

Jets flying over the metropolis is a yearly spectacle.

This year Azerbaijan's MIG-29 planes also participated in the festivities.

Last year's Teknofest was held virtually in southern Gaziantep province due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The year before that, more than 1.70 million people visited the event in Turkey's biggest city.

On display are the latest advancements in technology, from drones to missiles.

Students in particular flock to the airport where competitions are held before the main event.

The festival features dozens of competitions in categories like smart transportation, helicopter design, biotechnology, robotics, flying cars, rockets and unmanned underwater systems.
