The province’s population has swelled to 3.75 million people since the civil war started in the country. Before the conflict, it stood at around 1.5 million.

Many of the displaced especially flocked to the area near the Turkish border after the Bashar Assad regime attacks began in late 2019.

A campaign to help the displaced in Idlib was launched by Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) in early 2020 to build housing in the area.

In a little over a year $136 million was amassed with the help of a dozen Turkish humanitarian and relief organizations.
