New images emerged on Tuesday which show Chief of the General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar and several other senior officials being taken hostage by pro-coup soldiers during the night of the July 15 failed coup.
The pictures published on Turkish news website Haber7 showed the putschist soldiers arriving at the military headquarters in Ankara and tying the hands of Turkish Land Forces Commander Salih Zeki Çolak and Gen. İhsan Uyar while taking Deputy Chief of the General Staff Yaşar Güler to the command base with his hands also tied.
Unlawfully detained by the pro-coup soldiers at the night of July 15, Akar was transported by helicopter to the Akıncılar Air Base, which is located some 35 kilometers northwest of Ankara.
He was later rescued by military troops loyal to the government, along with police units.
