Bosporus style, magnificence: Vaniköy Mosque, Beylerbeyi Palace

Known as the "Pearl of the Bosporus," Vaniköy Mosque has been restored to all its elegance, as the Beylerbeyi Palace, which overlooks the body of water, opens its doors to photographers.

The mosque was built by Vani Mehmed Efendi in 1665-1666, during the reign of Sultan Mehmed IV.

It was repaired by Divitdar Mehmed Pasha in 1752-1753, and a sultan's lodge was added to the mosque during the reign of Sultan Mahmud I.

A cozy public library was built in a part of the mosque, which previously served as prayer space for women.

The 158-year-old Beylerbeyi Palace, which was used as a summer palace and state guest house during the late years of the Ottoman Empire, attracts the attention of local and foreign tourists with its unique appearance on the shores of the Bosporus, Istanbul, Türkiye, June 15, 2023.

Construction of the palace began in July 1863 and was officially opened on April 21, 1865, with the participation of Sultan Abdulaziz. Its outside reflects Western-style architecture, while its interior is classical Ottoman.
