Biopic script in works on Swedish football legend Ibrahimovic

Swedish football star Zlatan Ibrahimovic's formative years and rise to fame could feature on screen as a movie script based on his autobiography is in the works, Stockholm daily Aftonbladet reported Friday.

"I can confirm we are working on a script and I think it can be really good," co-author David Lagercrantz told the newspaper.

"I can say that it's a story of how Zlatan became who he is," he added. The book, titled I am Zlatan Ibrahimovic, has been published in over 30 languages and sold millions of copies since 2011. Ibrahimovic had a tough childhood in the southern city of Malmo and that was "the drama in the book - the American dream in Swedish," Lagercrantz said. Lagercrantz said both he and Ibrahimovic were "fired up" about the project.

"But before we start casting we have to agree on the script, just as was the case with the book," Lagercrantz said. He was working on the script with Jakob Beckman. Lagercrantz has recently scored success after writing two sequels to the late crime writer Stieg Larsson's best-selling Millennium series. Ibrahimovic, 36, recently returned to action with Premier League side Manchester United after sustaining a knee injury in April.
