Turkey's only competition in hosting the UEFA Euro 2024 finals will be Germany, according to UEFA General-Secretary Theodore Theodoridis Wednesday. Speaking to the press in the Swiss city of Nyon, Theodoridis said Germany and Turkey were the only countries that submitted their bids, adding it would be "a tough decision to make."
On March 2, Turkish Football Federation (TFF) head Yıldırım Demirören handed over Turkey's application to host the event to Theodoridis. The 17-member UEFA executive committee selects the hosts for the international tournament.
Nordic countries, including Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland had earlier confirmed their bids to host the tournament, but they did not succeed. Turkey has never hosted UEFA's biggest European national tournament, while Germany had the honors in the 1988 European Championship. West Germany hosted the 1974 FIFA World Cup and the 2006 World Cup was held in reunited Germany.
