Beşiktaş president rules out Turan transfer
Arda Turan will not join Beşiktaş, at least for this season, as the Istanbul-based club's president ruled out rumors of a one-year loan for Barcelona's Turkish star.
Speaking to reporters at the Black Eagles' training camp in Austria yesterday, Fikret Orman denied the rumors and said Arda Turan was not "on their agenda."
Turan joined Barcelona in a 40 million-euro deal last summer from Atletico Madrid and he still has another four years remaining.The 29-year-old player had missed the first half of the season due to the FIFA transfer ban imposed on the club. Turan has gone on to make just nine starts for the Catalan giant and has been linked with moves away from the club. Loan rumors were fuelled by his lackluster performances with Barcelona and the Turkish national team at Euro 2016.
Orman also expressed hope of Jose Sosa staying with the Eagles after the Argentine midfielder was kicked out of a training line-up in Austria. Sosa was at odds with the Beşiktaş administration for his comments that he would leave the team fearing for the safety of his family after terror attacks in Istanbul. Sosa is the only player citing safety reasons to cancel his contract with a Turkish club. "He is a player we liked but I think he is going through difficult times. I don't think he can make decisions in a mentally sound way. Our talks have been positive but he changed his attitude later. He will continue training with the team back in Turkey but if he insists on leaving, we would think it is entirely a commercial decision (rather than something about safety)," Orman said, hinting at rumored talks between Sosa and Italy's AC Milan.
Fikret Orman also spoke about the landing of a military helicopter carrying coup troops at the team's newly inaugurated stadium on the night of July 15 coup attempt. Orman said they would file a complaint against the soldiers - all detained and arrested by police who quelled the coup attempt with the help of the public - for damage to the stadium. The stadium is located near the presidential office in Istanbul but coup troops were stopped before taking over the office and other sites of importance near the stadium.
