Referee Mete Kalkavan thought that referring last week's Galatasaray-Mersin İdman Yurdu match would be the most difficult thing he'd have to do that day. His father Ahmet İhsan Kalkavan, who is also a former deputy, came to Istanbul from Samsun to watch the match that his son was officiating. However Ahmet Kalkavan was unable to stomach the strong language directed at his son and left the stadium after the 80th minute of the game. Kalkavan, who was very angry, called a taxi but had a heart attack due to the stress the supporters had caused him. The taxi driver managed to get him to the Bağcılar Medipol Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. It was announced that Kalkavan's heart stopped for 10 seconds and he was returned back to life. Ahmet İhsan Kalkavan ,who is in intensive care, is still sedated due to the risk of death. Galatasaray Manager Hamza Hamzaoğlu criticized Mete Kalkavan following the match and he stated that this was the only time he ever spoke about a referee.
