Brazilian Fernandao says he'd prefer to play for Turkey

Fenerbahçe's Brazilian striker and the reigning Spor Toto Super League top scorer Fernandao said he has never thought about playing for his native country and that it would "be a pleasure" to wear the Turkish national team jersey. Speaking to Fenerbahçe's monthly magazine, Fernandao said, "I was aiming to transfer to a powerhouse when I played for Bursaspor. I always tried to keep my performance at the top level. My goal was to wear one of the biggest teams' jersey. I have made it. Right now, I'm at one of the biggest teams in Turkey."

Stressing that he wanted to continue his good performances while playing for Anatolian team Bursaspor, Fernandao said, "I want to contribute to Fenerbahçe by scoring goals. I think the people are aware of my capacity. I will continue to perform at my top level. Our aim is to stay on top always. We have a good coach and footballers. We believe that we can bring Fenerbahçe many trophies. We have the chance to reach to the top stages in the UEFA Europa league. We can make it to the final. I see that light."

Praising the Portuguese coach Vitor Pereira, Fernandao added: "Vitor Pereira makes us feel that he treats every footballer equally. He never discriminates during training sessions. All the players work together until the last training session. All the players are aware that they can have the chance to be a starter. He is a coach who knows what he wants and makes himself clear to us. Besides, he and I speak the same language. It is a big advantage for me. I can understand what he wants from me."
