Eagles look forward to a return for Porto's Quaresma

Beşiktaş President Fikret Orman has announced that the Istanbul side was "open" to talks with FC Porto winger Ricardo Quaresma, who parted ways with the Eagles three years ago.

Quaresma, who made a stormy exit from Beşiktaş in 2012, may return to the team, Orman announced.

Answering reporters' questions at a press conference ahead of the opening of the new season, Orman said Quaresma was willing to return the team, and Beşiktaş was "open" to his offer.

"While he was playing for us, we offered to extend his contract for two more years, but he was not warm to our offer, and we were obliged to part ways with him," Orman noted. While avoiding referring to Quaresma's past with Beşiktaş directly, Orman said no player was above the team. "He is willing to return to Beşiktaş, and we cannot ignore it. It is team spirit, and the compatibility of players that matters to us. If he complies with our financial criteria and if our coach Şenol Güneş accepts, we can transfer him," he said.

Orman said the team would hire a stopper, a center forward and a winger and was not planning to sell any more players.

Quaresma had agreed to terminate his contract with Beşiktaş some time after his argument with coach Carlos Carvalhal was publicized, three years after he signed a three-year contract with the Eagles to the tune of 7.3 million euros. He enjoyed a successful streak for the team up until the incident in a UEFA Europa League match.

The Portuguese national, who started out at home in Sporting CP, moved to Barcelona and then to Italy's Internazionale before a brief spell at Chelsea. After Beşiktaş, he signed with Duba's al-Ahli until he was released by the club in 2013. Since January 2014, he has been with FC Porto.
