After Van Persie, Fener eyes Özil and Robben

The most active team in the transfer market, Fenerbahçe, are preparing more flashy moves. Fenerbahçe released a statement to the Istanbul stock exchange yesterday confirming their talks with Manchester United while Robin Van Persie had the first part of his medical in London. He will complete the medical when he flies to Istanbul at the weekend, with Fenerbahçe planning to unveil him on Monday. The club posted this message on their website: "Fenerbahçe has begun transfer talks with Robin Van Persie and his club Manchester United."

Continuing their spending spree, Fener also made an offer to Arsenal for Turkish-German star Mesut Özil. However, the Gunners wanted an "astronomical" fee for Özil, who cost the English club 42 million pounds. A Fenerbahçe fan, Mesut Özil thanked the Yellow Canaries for the offer. He said, "Fenerbahçe honored me with the offer. Everybody knows that I'm a fan of Fener. But I want to continue my career in England." Meanwhile Fenerbahçe's former administrator Murat Aşık alleged that the club is also eyeing Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben. He said, "The managers recommended Robben to President Aziz Yıldırım who wants a midfielder. But he may cost a lot."
