Number of Turkish millionaire accounts double in past 5 years


The number of bank accounts that contain one million Turkish liras ($340,000) or more in cash increased from 46,695 in 2012 to 94,529 in 2016 with an increase of 102 percent.

According to the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency's (BRSA) data compiled by the official Anadolu Agency, the total amount of deposits of people settled in Turkey have increased by 78 percent in the past five years and reached 1.186 trillion Turkish liras ($404 billion).

In the same period, the deposits in millionaire accounts have increased by 94.2 percent and reached TL 605 billion, which accounts for 49 percent of all deposits.

While the number of accounts holding up to TL 10,000 was 65,009,362 with an increase of 30.3 percent in the past 5 years, the total deposits in these accounts were only TL 43 billion, some 3.6 percent of all deposits.
