Domestic ATM to save $100M for Turkish banks
İşCepMatik, a domestic ATM developed by Türkiye İş Bankası, will allow an annual saving of $100 million if all banks in Turkey switch to the application. İşBank, Turkey's largest private lender, has developed a new-generation automated teller machine (ATM) by taking into consideration the needs of its customers who actively use mobile banking services. The new ATM, which is dubbed İşCepMatik and used through smartphones, has been actualized as a result of a two-year joint work with domestic technology producer DGI works. The device aims to pioneer developments in its field. Deputy General Manager of the bank, Hakan Aran, said all ATMs being used in Turkey are imported, adding that the new-generation device will allow the fund of millions of dollars, which is transferred abroad every year, to remain inside the country. Aran stated annually $100 million will be saved if all banks in Turkey use the device, which has a local content of 62 percent. İşCepMatik does not have any card readers or keypads that require password entry. The digital ATM can be connected through smartphones by using beacon (location-based wireless interaction that runs with low-level Bluetooth energy standards) or QR code technologies. All money withdrawal transactions are made through smartphones and the device will be made a deposit-friendly one soon. In order to use İşCepMatiks, consumers need to log on İşCep application on their smartphones and click "withdrawal" option. After entering the amount of money that they want to withdraw, they need to bring their smartphones closer to the beacon field on İşCepMatik. The technology is used through Bluetooth function on mobile phones. The bank aims to expand İşCepMatiks in 2016 and 2017 and to reach out to consumers in an easier access in this way. As of 2018, old ATMs will be replaced with İşCepMatiks in line with the interest of consumers. Aran underlined that the new device will drop costs and its expansion will contribute to national economy. Turkish people generally refer ATM's as İşBank's "Bankamatik" as it was the first bank introduced ATM's to Turkey. Most banks use import products of Diebold, NCR and Wincor Nixdorf.
