Borsa Istanbul closes Q1 with net purchases

Foreign investors made net purchases totaling $297 million in June, according to data released by Borsa Istanbul. When all the transactions made since the beginning of the year were examined, it was observed that net purchases made in the second quarter compensated for the sales made in the first quarter. While foreign investors completed the first quarter of the year with sales valued at $837 million, they made net purchases valued at $845 million in the second quarter. Thus, they closed the first half of the year with net purchases valued at $8 million in total. The BIST 100 index lost value at 0.88 percent on a monthly basis despite the net purchases of foreign investors in June. Therefore, the index drew attention, having showed a falling tendency in spite of net purchases of the foreign investors in the last two months. Analysts said sales made at banks' equity markets, which have considerable weight on the index, cause a balance disorder between the index and the transactions of foreign investors. They also emphasized that if net purchases of Boyner Pazarlama ve Tekstil valued at $325 million were not included in total net purchases made in June, foreign investors would have seen net sales valued at $28 million in June. In this case, the transactions of the foreign investors would be calculated as net sales valued at $317 million in the first half of the year. Boyner Pazarlama ve Tekstil was the equity market where foreign investors made the most purchases in June. It was followed by Turkcell, Petkim, Erdemir Holding and Koç Holding, respectively. On the other hand, the equity market that saw foreign investors selling the most was Halkbank with $39.9 million. It was followed by Emlak Konut GYO, VakıfBank, Türk Traktör and Garanti Bank, respectively.
