Consumer confidence index drops by 4.9 pct
The consumer confidence index compiled from the results of the Turkish Statistical Institute's (TurkStat) consumer tendency survey, collected in cooperation with the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, decreased 4.9 percent in October compared to the previous month. The index, which was 74 in September, before dropping to 70.3 in October showed similar movements to the general economic situation expectation index which was 102.1 in September before falling 10.5 percent to 91.3 in October. This decrease shows that the number of consumers that expected a better general economic situation in the next 12 months decreased compared to the previous month. The unemployment expectation index decreased by 6.3 percent compared to the previous month to become 73.7 in October, which stemmed from an increase in the ratio of people expecting the number of jobless to decrease in the next 12 months, indicating people see jobs on the horizon. The financial situation expectation for households index decreased by 1.1 percent compared to the previous month to become 90.2 in October. This decline arose from a decrease in the ratio of people better financial positions for household over the next 12 months. The probability of saving index increased by 9.4 percent, rising from 23.9 in September to 26.1 in October, indicates households expect more disposable income in the future.
