Istanbul Photo Awards 2017 on exhibition


The third exhibition consisting of award-winning photographs by the Istanbul Photo Awards 2017, which is an international news photography contest held by Anadolu Agency, has opened in İzmir.

Some 94 photographs that won awards at the Istanbul Photo Awards 2017 are on display. After Istanbul and Ankara, the exhibition has opened in the Folkart Gallery in Izmir and it can be visited until Oct. 17.

Taken by French photographer Frederic Lafargue in Iraq for the Paris Match, "Escape from Daesh" won the Anadolu Agency Photo of the Year Award.

Aris Messinis's series "Death in the Mediterranean" for AFP won the News Series Award, Adam Pretty's photo "Below the Surface" taken for Getty Images won the Sports Single Award. Patrick Smith's photo taken for Getty Images won the Sports Series Award in the contest.

Mary Gelman's images of female victims of domestic violence won the Portrait Series Award, but the jury could not find a photo deserving of the Portrait Single Award.

Kemal Jufri's "Feeding Orphaned Orangutans" won the Story Nature and Environment Award while Johnny Miller's series on "Papwa Sewgolum Golf Course" received the Single Nature and Environment Award. The "Street Training in Gaza" photos taken by Hosam Salem received the Young Photojournalist Award.

Nearly 25,000 photo applications were made for the categories of news, sport, portrait, nature and environment. The official sponsors of the contest, in which 22 photographers from 17 countries were given awards, were Turkish Airlines and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).
