Burhan Öçal and the Istanbul Oriental Ensemble will perform today at the Kozyatağı Cultural Center. Founded by multi-instrumentalist Öçal in 1991, the Istanbul Oriental Ensemble is a project that aims to bring Turkish and Balkan music together without compromising on each style's features. The ensemble features percussion, clarinet, zither, oud and violin. Istanbul Oriental Ensemble, which mirrors the harmony of the Anatolian, Thracian and Balkan rhythms that emerged in the 19th century, has performed at various festivals and in cities across Turkey and Europe. The ensemble won the "German Record Critics Award" in 1995 with their debut album "Gypsy Rum." They released their second studio album "Sultan's Secret Door" in February 1997 and won the same award in Germany.
