Gender relations and politics focus of exhibition

The first solo exhibition of Canan Işık at Rampa Gallery will run from Jan. 15 to Feb. 27. The exhibition titled "The Shining Darkness" brings the artist's video, photo, painting and installation works together under the same roof. Işık questions power structures, gender politics and patriarchal systems as well as their governance of the individual body - particularly the female body. Patriarchy is everywhere, anywhere. For instance, as it is shown in her video "Hezeyan" (Delusion), where she falls in love with a man who has hacked her computer, the Internet is a panopticon - an all-seeing surveillance system - a concept that Işık has re-iterated throughout her career. It is a shining darkness, a black sun rendering us into a state of madness and resignation. When: From Jan. 15 to Feb. 27Where: Rampa
