‘Everyday Sounds' theme of ANAMED exhibition

Koç University Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations is getting ready to host a brand new exhibition in 2016. The exhibition "Everyday Sounds: Exploring Sound Through Daily Life," where the audience can experience sounds related to urban life, will also unveil the sounds that escape our attention. The exhibition, whose content development, display design and graphics design are undertaken by Cem Kozar and Işıl Ünal's PATTU, presents a soundscape experience. With the sound installations of Mine Erkaya and Ateş Erkoç, the visitors will be able to experience the sounds of different venues such as the street, restaurants and the city itself. The exhibition consists of different sections, starting with the question, "How do people perceive the sounds in the environments in which they exist?" and continuing with an interactive installation where sounds lost in the daily pace of life can be identified. In the next section, the sound installation titled "Another Day in the City," with its screenplay and editing by Vassilis Danellis, and moving images by Hürcan Emre Yılmazer, presents sounds recorded on the street together with special sound effects. With the support of Dolby Atmos, Extreme Audio and Pana Film Studios, the exhibition aims to offer a unique soundscape experience. The Dolby Atmos Technology, which enables 3D and dynamic sound experience, will be used at an exhibition in Turkey for the first time. The exhibition also includes Pınar Çevikayak Yelmi's project "The Soundscape of Istanbul," which emphasizes the importance of the sustainability of cultural memory and identity and, to this end, consists of recordings of everyday sounds. In this section of the exhibition that collects urban sounds, visitors are offered an opportunity to participate in the event. Those who wish to participate in the work can visit the dedicated website www.soundsslike.com and upload the sounds they have recorded in the city. Created by Hüseyin Kuşçu, the interactive map, which was released prior to the exhibition, will also continue to collect sounds that will be submitted to the website. Moreover, all the sounds that will be displayed and stored by the research center will be collected by the digital archive of Koç University Suna Kıraç Library. Those who are interested can access to the digital archive via http://digitalcollections.library.ku.edu.tr/cdm/landingpage/collection/SOI.
