‘A Season in Hakkari' depicts life in southeastern Turkey
The Walk-in Cinema program at SALT Beyoğlu continues with "Hakkari'de Bir Mevsim" (A Season in Hakkari), a 1982 production directed by Erden Kıral. The winner of four awards at the 1983 Berlin Film Festival, the film adapted from Ferit Edgü's namesake novel was banned in Turkey for five years. The movie will be screened with English subtitles and is free of charge. In the film, a teacher (Genco Erkal) is banished to eastern Turkey and his relations with the reality of a harsh environment and local community puts him in a very difficult situation. Onat Kutlar, who co-wrote the script with Edgü, said in a statement that the film offers a new understanding of eastern Turkey in cinema without relying on folkloric or epic tales.When: Oct. 29Where: Beyoğlu SALT
