Gallery Işık is currently hosting an animated exhibition about refugees. Cartoonist Oğuz Aral said cartoon artists cannot ignore the problem of refugees all around the globe. "As migration and illegal refuge have become a global problem and relate to many other matters, the problem has grown into a striking focus," Aral said. Another contributor to the exhibition, Emrah Arıkan, stressed that a detailed subject that can be written can more aptly be expressed through a cartoon. "If you want to send a message, a cartoon is a very effective way to do it. Cartoonists employ an unwritten and universal language; people can understand the message of a cartoon without needing to speak a certain language," Arıkan said. The cartoonists hope their work will reach Arab and European countries that resist accepting refugees. The exhibition, which displays the work of 37 cartoonists from 16 countries, will run until Oct. 31.
