One of the most important artists of classical Iranian music, Mohammad Reza Shajarian, will perform for Istanbulites on Sept. 4. The Shahnaz Ensemble, which introduced traditional Persian music to the world, was founded by the great maestro Mohammad Reza Shajarian in 2007. The young musicians of the ensemble have been trained by the veteran Iranian musicians who have left their mark on the music industry over the last 30 years. They performed many times with the well-known masters of Persian music around the world under the baton of Maestro Majid Derakhshani. Shajarian began singing in 1959 with Radia Horasan and became famous for his outstanding vocal power and performances in the 1960s. Aside from his artistic character, Shajarian is also known for his human rights activism. The artist was honored with the Picasso Award by UNESCO France in 1999.
