The project Russian Seasons vs American Seasons, which is designed to honor this year's festival theme Cultural Landscape, intends to go through different continents and seasons to show different cultural and musical identities. Gideon Kremer, who created a dialog between Vivaldi and Piazzolla in his previous project, "Eight Seasons," brings fresh inspiration and a brand new viewpoint to "build bridges between different geniuses, different cycles, different worlds, making them a unit, a unity, giving them full exposure of the vitality, not just on its own but in the dialogue, making the dialogue possible," as he explains. Winner of the Istanbul Music Festival Lifetime Achievement Award, Kremer successfully manages to preserve his originality and contemporary approach while sticking to tradition. Kremer has won many prestigious international awards including a Grammy with his more than 120 albums. He founded his ensemble Kremerata Baltica with young and talented musicians from the Baltics in 1997 and the ensemble quickly gained world-wide fame thanks to Kremer's creative approach. He and his ensemble have performed the world premieres of works by Arvo Part, Giya Kancheli, Peteris Vasks and Alexander Raskatov. Among the two Turkish premiers, Philip Glass's composition for solo violin and strings, "American Four Seasons," will be supplemented with video installations produced by multimedia artists including Jonas Mekas, a legendary filmmaker, poet and artist who is regarded as "the godfather of American avant-garde cinema."
