Son of a GunThe hotly-anticipated action-crime film is directed by Julius Avery who is famous for his crime movies. A 19-year-old young Australian man gets out of jail and finds himself in Australia's criminal world, but tries to leave his bad memories behind. "Son of a Gun" is inspired by Brendon Abbott, a real thief, and his apprentice Brendan Berichon. The film stars Ewan McGregor, Brenton Thwaites, Alicia Vikander and Jacek Koman. McGregor plays the ferocious thief, while Thwaites is the young apprentice.San AndreasThis week's second action film "San Andreas" stars Dwayne Johnson and Kylie Minogue in lead roles along with Alexandra Daddario, Carla Gugino and Colton Haynes. California is hit by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake when the notorious San Andreas Fault line breaks. A rescue-helicopter pilot and his ex-wife head to San Francisco from Los Angeles to rescue their daughter. However, their dangerous journey is only the beginning. Every time they think they have passed the worst incident, something dangerous happens again. The American-produced film is directed by Brad Peyton.The DeadlandsStarring James Rolleston, Lawrence Makoare, Xavier Horan, Rena Owen, Te Kohe Tuhaka and Raukura Tarei, "The Deadlands" is directed by Toa Fraser. Similar to other action films like "Apocalypto," "Conan" and "The Last of the Mohicans," it presents an epic and innovative story into the world of the Maori tribe. The New Zealand action film depicts a young warrior that wants to take revenge for his father and tribe's murder.The Good LieDirected by Academy Award nominee Philippe Falardeau, "The Good Lie" stars Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon as the leading actress. The film focuses on the dramatic story of a group of young Sudanese people and their struggle to hold on to life in the U.S. after the Second Civil War in Sudan. Sudanese actors Arnold Oceng, Ger Duany, Emmanuel Jal and Kuoth Wiel who also witnessed the civil war in real life during their childhood accompany Witherspoon on the silver screen.The Longest RideThe U.S production drama is the cinema adaptation of renowned New York Times bestselling author, Nicholas Sparks. Starring Scott Eastwood, Britt Robertson, Alan Alda and Jack Huston and directed by George Tillman Jr, the film tells the story of two young people who rediscover the meaning of love and true values with a box filled with old love letters. AloftThe Spanish, Canadian and French co-production film "Aloft" tells of a struggling mother who encounters the son she abandoned 20 years earlier. Starring Jennifer Connelly, Cillian Murphy, Melanie Laurent and William Shimell, the film is directed by Claudia Llosa.The CanalIrish production thriller "The Canal" focuses on David, who is a film archivist and his wife Alice who suspects that her husband is cheating. When they learn that their home was previously the scene of a violent murder, their lives change forever. Directed by Ivan Kavanagh, the film stars Rupert Evans.Yak: The Giant KingThis Thai-produced 3D-animated film is about two robots coming together in order to find their maker.
