Giuseppe Verdi’s ‘Atilla’ staged in Ankara

The Ankara State Opera and Ballet will present Guiseppe Verdi's opera based on the 1809 play "Atilla, King of the Huns" by Zacharias Wener, set in mid-fifth century Rome. The story begins with Attila the Hun's successful invasion of Italy. Amid the celebrations, a group of captured women is brought in. Odebella, the group's leader, shouts to Atilla and says they will always defend their country. Attila is impressed with her courage. Later, Ezio, a Roman general, arrives to discuss matters with Attila. He greets him with respect, calling him a worthy adversary. Ezio proposes a deal that would give Attila the entire Roman Empire as long as he retains control of Italy. Attila angrily rejects the offer and tells him that he would rather raze Rome to the ground. When: March 9Where: Ankara State Opera and Ballet Hall
