‘Portraits’ as a means to describe oneself

Hosting exhibitions in every field of contemporary art, the Gama Gallery presents painter Eliff Karadayı's exhibition entitled "Portraits" till Feb. 19. Karadayı, who considers art as a tool to describe and heal herself, displays portraits of people that have come and gone in her life over time. Naive and childish elements dominate the artist's works. In fact, she reflects the people that she knows using a lean and simple language in mostly primary colors without mixing them. According to the artist, the purpose of art is to remove boundaries and borders. Art has no religion, nation or race. "I can say that I approach art from a modernist perspective through abstract expression," Karadayı states. She believes that art is a healer and has the power to liberate people. She says, "Painting is an endless life source for me." Karadayı, who received her engineering degree from Yeditepe University, has never lost her passion for painting since her childhood. Although her works were acclaimed from the very beginning, she never saw her work as worthy until her application for a scholarship abroad was approved. Her education at the San Francisco School of Art helped her to gain confidence. Following her years in San Francisco, she was offered an assistantship position at NYU and invited to Sciences Po Paris to teach a "Collage and Sculpture" course. During her time abroad, she stood out in Turkish art circles and also made a name for herself in her homeland. Regarded as the young representative of POPART in Turkey, Karadayı continues her work at the Gama Gallery in Balat. When: Until Feb. 19Where: Gama Gallery
