Destruction of ordinary perceptions on display

Every word has a dictionary definition as well as a personal connotation. While the dictionary presents a general explanation, personal connotations convey meaning, context and what that word refers to. However, the artists Genco Gülan, Uğur Çakı, Dilan Bozyel and Tuğberk Selçuk have come together to destroy everything that has been fictionalized, including the meanings we give words. "Gobsmacked," Gallery İlayda's first exhibition of the year, will run until Feb. 1 under the curatorship of Gülben Çapan. The exhibition brings together the prominent aforementioned artists of two generations from different disciplines. The display destroys the images that are engraved on our conscious by interpreting them outside of their ordinary context. Bozyel teleports spaceman to the streets of Istanbul with her astronaut exhibition, which reconstructs our perception of space by appearing on a ferry, subway and beach. Selçuk is displaying his framed artworks, which are not paintings but sculptures, while Çakı adds a golden touch to the contemporary idea of the car with his artistic interpretation. Lastly, Gülan makes his viewers think, as his works are dominated by political and social ironies. His work titled "Amputee Mickey" featuring Mickey Mouse, a universally accepted figure of happiness by all generations, will certainly shock you. When: Until Feb. 1Where: Gallery İlayda
