‘La Boheme’ to be performed in Istanbul


The opera "La Boheme," which brings together the compositions of Italian composer Giacomo Puccini and the story of French author Henri Murger, will be performed by the Royal Opera Company from Jan. 18 to Jan. 24 in Istanbul. According to a statement released by the Zorlu Performing Arts Center, 150 artists, along with the Royal Opera Company Grand Opera will perform "La Boheme," which is known for its spectacular settings, crowded stage and epic stories. Renowned international artists as well as professional artists from Turkey will don the romantic description of 19thcentury bohemian Paris. Directed by Richard Jones, the opera will feature a choir composed of 80 people, including children. Starring David Butt Philip, Simge Büyükedes, Zheng Zhong Zhou and Madeleine Pierard, the orchestra will be conducted by maestro Cem Mansur. The technical team is composed of 60 technicians and they have already begun setting the stage for the performance. This cult production, which was first performed by the Royal Opera Company in London in 1974, includes costumes that represent 40 years of history.
