New Babylon exhibition: Walid Siti

Born in 1954, the Iraq- and London-based Iraqi-Kurdish artist Walid Siti is displaying his sculptures, paintings and drawings at the exhibition "New Babylon" at Galeri Zillberman, Istanbul. Siti demonstrates the process of change and transformation in the Middle East through metaphorical images, and his works show forced migration, exile, war and political paradoxes. He also describes metaphorical mountains, large landscape and the connection between humans and nature. Siti's artistic language connects the past and the future by telescoping time. New Babylon presents pyramids, ziggurats and towers. Ladders are the essential component of his sculptures, demonstrating dynamic movements adopting the idea of "reaching further and further up." Siti's works are also included in important group exhibitions in New York, Doha, Iraq and London. When: Until Jan. 10 Where: Galeri Zillberman
