Jazz Festival offers panels along with concerts

The 24th Akbank Jazz Festival, which welcomes stars of the jazz world, will present informative panels and workshops for jazz enthusiasts concurrently with the rich concert program running until Nov. 2. Panel: Writing about jazzJazz is presumably one of the rare music genres that reminds us of the phrase: "Music is not just music." This special genre has been deeply analyzed by researchers from political, psychological and financial perspectives. Jazz is also in constant interaction with other forms of art ranging from photography, painting and cinema to literature. Chaired by Jazz Magazine editor Zuhal Focan, the upcoming panel will explore the world of jazz writers who interview jazz musicians and write their autobiographies, review their latest albums, concerts and performances. This might be the day for you to get inspiration and start writing about jazz. The panel will take place on Saturday, Nov. 1. Workshop: Tap AwayAtölye Dans will organize the Tap Away dance workshop on Nov. 1. Participants will practice tap dance, which emerged in the 19th century in the U.S. and then spread around the world. In tap dance, performers use the sounds of tap shoes as a form of percussion. Different rhythms of tap dance will help participants leave daily stress behind. It will bring an entertaining atmosphere while attendees dance with the songs of masterpiece musicals such as "Singing in the Rain." Workshop: Drum & Bass Magazine - Guitar MagazineThe second edition of the Drum & Bass Magazine workshop is waiting for amateur and professional participants from all ages interested in music and instruments. The attendees will have a chance to develop their musical background while meeting with experienced music instructors. The workshop includes different sessions for drum, bass and guitar. The workshop Body Music with Children will connect little jazz lovers with the rhythm of life while using their bodies. Everything from sound, silence, hands, feet and shoes to wind will turn into music and rhythm. Children's unbounded creativity and imagination will take them on a journey with psychologist, author and trainer Burcu Tekin. Participants will present short improvised performances at the end of the workshop taking place on Saturday this week. Parents can attend the program with their children as well.
