Within the scope of the Polyphonic exhibition, a research project entitled "Repertuvar" (Repertoire) will be displayed alongside Alper Maral and many other music experts' contributions, according to a statement released by Istanbul Modern. "Repertuvar" is a work that features the cumulative compositions of artists who produced music over a 300-year period. Explaining the process of change and transformation in the music industry with examples, "Repertuvar" will host Ersu Pekin on Sept. 4. He will talk about music and visual arts in the late Ottoman period as well as their place in the socio-cultural order during the first years of the Republic. Evin İlyasoğlu will also present examples of pioneers from each period in the chronological stages of contemporary Turkish music. Alper Maral will present research into the effects of 1980s socio-political dynamics on music. He will also highlight works on electro music and avant-garde approaches. In the event, which will take place on Sept. 11 at Süreli Exhibition Hall, Maral will play pieces from the repertoire of Leyla Hanım, one of the first woman composers in Turkey. He will also debut a piece from electronic music artist Bülent Arel that was composed for the organ. Jazz musician and percussion instrument instructor Şenol Küçükyıldırım will create a pattern with bells around the exhibition hall and combine the sounds coming from the exhibition. Body music and body percussion artist Tugay Başar will use his arms, feet and body as a percussion surface to demonstrate to the audience that the one who plays and the one that is played can be the same. The events will be free of charge.
